Gwen gets a call from her Uncle Arthur in London, inviting her to live with him and her Aunt. She tells Peter and he almost proposes until she reminds him of her hatred for Spider-Man. Meanwhile, Hobie Brown reads about Captain Stacy’s death and wonders if his Spider-Man impersonation in ASM #87 makes him an accessory. Hobie dons his Prowler gear, vowing to bring Spidey to justice. He heads for the Stacy home, just as Spidey decides to return there and tell Gwen his secret. Finding Gwen inside crying, Spidey almost taps on the window but the Prowler attacks. Spidey tries to explain even while leading the fi ght away from Gwen but Hobie won’t listen. In the fi ght, Hobie throws them both through a skylight into an elevator shaft and loses his grip. Failing to snag him with his webbing, Spidey tells Hobie to use his claws to slow his plunge but the fall still badly injures him. Spidey incinerates the Prowler costume, takes Hobie to the hospital and calls Mindy. Seeing Mindy with Hobie prompts Spidey to return to Gwen but he finds a subletter who tells him Gwen has gone to the airport. Peter arrives to see the London plane take off. He laments that his spider-power has cost him the girl he loves.
