Using an apparatus connected to a live spider he makes contact with the hero using his spider-sense and they hold a meeting, but Spider-Man soon realizes that Doom is a villain. Spider-Man tries to web Doom up, only to find he had webbed one of his robot duplicates. The real Doom appears and attacks Spider-Man, who narrowly escapes. Meanwhile, Flash Thompson has decided to dress up as Spider-Man to play a joke on Peter. Unfortunately, Dr. Doom finds him first, mistaking him for the real Spider-Man. Doom makes a television broadcast in which he threatens to execute "Spider-Man" unless the Fantastic Four surrender to him. Peter sees this and sets out to save Flash. Spider-Man is barely able to hold his own against Doom's many traps and another robot duplicate, but when the Fantastic Four arrive Doom realizes he cannot fight all five at once and departs. Spider-Man leaves as well, leaving the Fantastic Four to set Flash free. The next day at school, Flash boasts about his encounter with Doom, making himself out as a hero.
