Steve Rogers is pulled into Jimmy Jankovicz's Land of Nowhere, a dreamland where he and Sharon Carter start a new life on a moon base. Now retired from his life as Captain America, he is later interviewed by a reporter about how he is adjusting to his new life. Steve says it's wonderful to no longer have to be Captain America and to finally get to enjoy the American Dream. But soon he sees an indication that reality is not as it seems: he tears down a brick wall and behind it is a dystopian cityscape with searchlights from giant blimps cast down onto the streets. He wanders down an alley and sees bums lying underneath tattered a American flag. Bravo walks up behind him and tells him that how he feels now is just how he felt when Jimmy woke up six years previous and cast him and his friends out of the Land of Nowhere. Bravo physically assaults Cap, telling him about the early terrifying days when they were trapped in the dreamworld, until he and the similarly abandoned Hydra agents worked together to stay alive. They learned to shape the reality of the Land of Nowhere, conquering it and building a better world. When they returned to their original realities, they saw how bad it was under Captain America's stewardship and decided they needed to wrest control from him so they could do a better job. Meanwhile, the Falcon joins Sharon Carter and Nick Fury to help solve the mystery of Steve's disappearance. They know he's trapped in Jimmy's dream world but have no idea how to get him out. The Falcon traces hostile Hydra activity to a telecommunications complex and calls in Sharon and Nick for backup. Nick figures they're using the complex to broadcast Jimmy's reality warping powers across the country. Just as Nick feared, the Hydra Queen and her scientists are trying to adapt Jimmy's elderly body to a machine that will allow them to merge their world with the real one. They do have a concern that their machinations may kill Jimmy. The Hydra Queen detects the Falcon and turns her attention to warding him off. Sharon has already penetrated the facility and sets out in search of Jimmy. The Hydra Queen cuts her off, knocking her down and then holding a pistol to Jimmy's head, threatening to kill him and strand Steve in the dreamworld forever.
