Advertising agency partners Carter and Lombardo flag Spidey down and ask him to build a Spider-Mobile with a Corona Motors engine. Spidey refuses and departs, unaware that the Kangaroo watches him from a nearby alley. There, Dr. Jonas Harrow approaches him, offering a proposal. While Peter Parker learns that he is failing Professor Warren’s class and that Harry hasn’t paid the rent in months, Harrow endows the Kangaroo with devices that amplify his strength and leaping ability. However, the Kangaroo turns on him. Threatened with eviction, Spidey is forced to accept the Corona offer. The Kangaroo attacks as Spidey leaves Carter & Lombardo’s offices and almost wins until Harrow activates the mental pacemaker, a painful implant, that forces him to return to the lab and do the scientist’s bidding. As Spidey turns to the Human Torch to help him build the Spider-Mobile, Harrow sends the Kangaroo to Hudson Nuclear Lab to steal a radioactive isotope. Hearing of this, Spidey intercedes, warning the Kangaroo of gamma ray dangers. The Kangaroo ignores him and vaporizes himself upon entering the isotope room. Spidey departs while Harrow contemplates his next plot. Meanwhile at the apartment, an increasingly unbalanced Harry declares himself the Green Goblin.
