Musing that a Spider-Man-committed “murder” gave birth to his costumed identity, the Jackal plans his next move. Meanwhile, Peter walks with the resurrected Gwen, both of them trying to fi gure out how she’s alive. When Gwen kisses Peter, she realizes that his feelings have changed. Upset, Peter web-swings. Later Scorpion attacks Santonio’s Monticello mansion, hoping to take over his territory, claiming to have killed Spider-Man. However, seeing Spidey alive on the news, the gangsters fight back and Scorpion retreats. Outside the estate, the Jackal pounces on him and offers an alliance. Elsewhere, Spidey fi nds Scorpion’s hotel room as well as the money he recently stole. Reporting it to the police, he returns to the hospital to check on Aunt May when Scorpion enters and threatens her for Spidey’s whereabouts as the Jackal instructed. When May faints, Scorpion scours the rest of the hospital until Spidey appears. The fight ends up at the Chrysler Building, where Spidey repeatedly sends Scorpion falling to earth, cowing him into apologizing to May before being taken away. May tells Scorpion he should be ashamed of himself.
