The chained Spider-Man manages to web the bridge as he falls but swings too far back and knocks himself out. Jackal and Tarantula escape via a jetpack hidden inside Gwen’s wardrobe, leaving Spidey to the mercy of the NYPD. An overzealous Lt. Arbuckle has the chains removed to impress the press, allowing Spidey to escape. An overwhelmed Peter returns to his apartment and shuns Mary Jane who came to fight for his affection. Ned arrives to discuss how someone could have gotten Gwen’s DNA. Peter remembers they gave cell samples to Professor Warren’s assistant Anthony Serba. They visit Warren and learn the samples are missing and that Serba disappeared months ago. Checking Serba’s old address, Spidey fi nds the Tarantula. They fight and Spidey knocks Tarantula out. However, the Jackal sneaks up from behind and drugs Spidey with his claws. The Jackal’s attack failed to trigger Spidey’s spider-sense because the Jackal is Spidey’s friend: Professor Warren!
