Not knowing if he’s the clone, Spider-Man goes to Curt Connor’s lab to run tests, unaware he’s being watched. Connors arrives as well and offers to aid him. Resting after the tests, Spidey hears Vulture taunting him outside. Still weak from the tests, Spidey battles the Vulture until the villain rams into a wall and strangely disintegrates. Immediately afterwards, the Sandman attacks. When Spidey knocks a water tower on him, he too disappears. Heading back to Connors’ lab, Spidey is waylaid by the Kingpin who also disappears in the fight. Spencer Smythe then appears within his Spider-Slayer and reveals the other villains were humanoid robots designed to exhaust Spidey. As Smythe pummels him, Spidey thinks of Mary Jane, an emotional reaction he believes the clone wouldn’t have. Convinced he is the original, the reinvigorated Spidey breaks frees and knocks Smythe out. Spidey returns to the lab and throws Connors test results out. He doesn’t need them anymore.
