Spider-Man spots a cab flashing a Morse Code SOS with its headlights and makes short work of the two robbers, inadvertently damaging the cab in the process. The next day at ESU, Peter apologizes to MJ for abandoning her at JJJ’s party. They make up and run into Ned Leeds who is on campus to interview Dr. Bolton, computer genius and former ESU football hero. Peter accompanies Ned and Bolton tells them how his inability to score a touchdown altered his future from football to science. A student delivers Bolton a message, causing him to end the interview. In a nearby park, Bolton meets Paine—the kidnapper of his daughter Mindy—who demands the fi nal component of W.H.O. for Paine’s employer. That night at the homecoming dance, Peter ducks out to follow Bolton to the stadium. There, Bolton relives his near-scoring run, dodging bullets instead of tacklers. As Spidey beats Paine and his armed men, Bolton rescues Mindy, dying in the attempt, but falling into the end zone: touchdown this time.
Bolton comes up one foot short of the goal line in his last football game.
