The Big Man plots several daring heists seeking to rule New York’s underworld. The local criminals who doubt him are persuaded by his three chief henchmen — the Enforcers. Peter learns that Aunt May requires a blood transfusion. Although fearful of the result, he agrees to provide the blood. With Aunt May mending, he sets out as Spider-Man to oppose the crime wave, Meanwhile, Jameson begins suggesting in the Bugle that Spider-Man is the Big Man, despite the concern of his reporter Frederick Foswell. Peter comes across Betty being threatened by the Enforcers who have come to collect on money she took from a loan shark. Later, Spider-Man finds the Enforcers’ hideout, but they cover the Big Man’s escape. When Spider-Man notices Jameson nearby, he wonders if Jameson is the Big Man. To draw the Big Man out, Peter claims around school that he knows his identity. Sure enough, the Enforcers take Peter prisoner and place him in a cell. Peter breaks out as Spider-Man and defeats the Enforcers, but the police arrest Foswell as the Big Man. Jameson fumes over being bested by Spider-Man again, but secretly admits that he is jealous of Spider-Man’s goodness and power. With the crisis past, Peter wonders what Betty’s personal problem could be.
