Four thugs steal John Jameson’s frozen body from the cryonics hospital. Peter and Betty visit Aunt May in the hospital, before heading over to the 42nd St. Pier for a cruise around Manhattan. JJJ and Joe Robertson have dinner at Rocke-feller’s Rainbow room where Jonah tells Robbie about John’s kidnapping. Aboard the liner, MJ and her date, quarterback Brad Davis, happen across Pete and Betty. Although with Brad, MJ still cares for Pete. Jigsaw and his crew board the liner and rob the passengers. Pete slips away and, as Spidey, webs up most of the gang. Jigsaw takes Liz and Harry hostage, letting them go once he’s ashore. Spidey tracks and stalks Jigsaw, scaring him into submission.
JJJ reveals that his wife died when John was a boy. The OMISM #8, ’85 entry for ASM #188 notes that Peter’s spider-sense shouldn’t react to MJ bringing a date, since there was no danger. However, as the sight of MJ with ESU’s star quarterback was bound to cause Peter pain, the spider-sense may have been warning him of impending emotional danger.
