JJJ wants Spider-Man brought to justice for “killing” John, using “Spider-Man Killer” as a Bugle headline. JJJ orders Joe Robertson to fire Peter but Robbie assigns Pete to the Egyptian delegation’s visit to the King Tut exhibit instead. Spidey rescues a woman pedestrian from an out of control car. She swats at him, calling him a killer. When Spidey stops the car, the driver reacts the same way. Marla and JJJ visit Smythe looking for his help. Spidey visits Blake Tower, who tells him to sue Jameson, but to do that he’ll have to reveal his identity. Later, Smythe shows Jonah his new Slayer, then slaps a strange manacle on him. Spidey heads toward the Bugle but the new Slayer waylays him. Falling off a building, the Slayer is destroyed and Spidey knocked out. Smythe grabs Spidey and slaps the other manacle cuff on him, explaining that it is a bomb with a timer primed to blow in 24 hours.
