Spider-Man apparently commits a string of robberies in New York, shaking the city’s trust in the hero.While Jameson feels vindicated, Peter wonders if he might be suffering from a split personality. As Spider-Man, he tries to see a psychiatrist, but balks at the last moment. Jameson is summoned to a meeting with Mysterio, who claims to be a hero determined to bring Spider-Man to justice. He soon faces Spider-Man in battle and defeats him through a variety of tricks, although Spider-Man manages to escape. When Mysterio visits the Daily Bugle to revel in his victory, Peter slips a spider-tracer on him. As Spider-Man, they battle again and Mysterio reveals his origin, how he utilized technology he used as a motion picture special effects man into developing a criminal’s arsenal. He also reveals himself as the crimecommitting Spider-Man imposter. Spider-Man defeats Mysterio, exposing him as a criminal to the public much to Jameson’s chagrin.
