Mysterio leaves as the water rises around Spider-Man. The tied-up Burglar vows to kill Mysterio for usurping his plans and smashes a mirror to cut his bonds with the shards. Spidey manages to weave a web bubble around his head to preserve air, then pulls the plug of the pool he’s chained up in, draining the water. He heads home to rest before resuming the chase; waking up the next day to renewed energy, a healed arm, and a surprise visit by the friends he thought he lost when he insulted Betty. He tells them he treated Betty badly so that she would get back together with Ned but Liz tells him Betty and Ned are irreconcilable. Later, Spidey returns to May’s house to try and figure out why Mysterio trashed it and fi nds Mysterio himself. Mysterio fl ies off and Spidey follows, learning that Mysterio has found a way to block his spider-sense so that he can’t tell what is real and what is illusion. They return to the nursing home where Mysterio shoots Spidey with a dart containing enough depressant to kill an elephant.
