Henry Pym calls the Avengers for help in locating the missing Wasp. Hawkeye brings Pym to Avengers Mansion, where the team receives a message from Wasp’s captor, the Collector. Scarlet Witch gives Pym a new costume she made and he proves his identity by growing to 25 feet. The Collector lures the Avengers to his castle and captures them, intending to add them to his collection. Goliath grows out of his bonds and frees his teammates. They pursue the villain, but the Beetle, the Collector’s unwilling henchman, attacks them. Beetle defeats Captain America and Collector subdues Quicksilver, but Goliath beats two giants summoned by the Collector with Scarlet Witch’s help. Quicksilver revives and snatches Wasp from the Collector’s clutches, and the Beetle and Collector escape via a time machine. Goliath tries to shrink back down but stops at ten feet and collapses.
Henry Pym discards his old moniker of Giant-Man, which he considers corny; his new super hero identity of Goliath is inspired by a term Captain America uses to describe his stature. At first, he can grow to only 25 feet and only for 15 minutes lest he suffer physiological damage, but at the end of this story, he is stuck at ten-foot height, where he remains until issue #35. Goliath and Wasp reveal their identities to the rest of the Avengers and rejoin the team in this issue. Cap and Hawkeye demonstrate a rehearsed feat of teamwork called “maneuver nine.”
