In their homeland, Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch miss being Avengers. Captain America, Hawkeye, and Wasp travel to South America to find Goliath, who eludes the Keeper of the Flame’s followers with Prince Rey. Goliath learns the Flame of Life is powered by dangerous cobalt and resolves to extinguish it, but Rey, wanting to control the flame himself, dispatches his guards against him. Goliath reaches the flame, but the Keeper subdues him. When the Avengers storm the Forbidden Land, the Keeper captures Cap and Hawkeye and tries to feed them and Goliath to the flame. Wasp unlocks a gateway, allowing Rey and his followers to attack the Forbidden Land, and her teammates get free. Acting on information from Wasp and orders from Captain America, Hawkeye fires an arrow at an idol whose explosive contents smother the flame as it reaches critical mass. Prince Rey and the Keeper stop fighting, and the Avengers leave with Dr. Anton, who says he cannot help Goliath.
Latest in a long line of guardians appointed to watch the sacred Flame of Life, the power-hungry Keeper of the Flame forces Prince Rey from his throne.
The credits include the fictitious Irving Forbush (“bugle calls”). Transia is first named in Thor #133, ’66. Keeper of the Flame, Prince Rey and their followers, as natives of the Forbidden Land, are revealed to be descendants of the ancient Incas.
