Ares and Enchantress trick Hercules into drinking a love potion that puts him under the Asgardian’s control. SHIELD abducts Black Widow as she makes her way to an Avengers meeting where Goliath and Hawkeye argue about her candidacy for membership. Cap leaves the meeting to deal with an emergency. Nick Fury assigns Black Widow a mission in the Far East, and when she cryptically tells the Avengers she must return to China, the team questions her loyalties. Upset, Hawkeye quits and Wasp leaves with him. Enchantress and Hercules attack and defeat the remaining Avengers, but Hawkeye and Wasp return. Hawkeye’s sulfur arrow releases Hercules from his spell. After Enchantress leaves, Zeus appears, angry that Hercules left for Earth without permission. Zeus banishes Hercules from Olympus for one year and the Avengers offer him their hospitality.
Captain America records a message for his fellow Avengers, noting that he has to leave (d).
The Avengers’ practice of rotating chairmanship resumes. Hawkeye does not follow through on his impetuous resignation from the team. Hephaestus may have made Ares’ armor after his appearance in RRC #1, ’40. Tony Stark’s mansion officially becomes Avengers Mansion as of this issue. With Hercules taking up the Avengers’ offer of hospitality, he joins their supporting cast with this issue; he formally joins the team in Av #45, ’67.
