As Jameson gloats on television over the seeming cowardice of Spider-Man, Peter continues to look after Aunt May and wonders if there is a way his alter ego can earn some money. He offers his likeness to a trading card company, but they refuse. He offers his webbing to a chemical company, but they lose interest when they learn it eventually dissolves. Leaving their lab, Spider-Man encounters the Sandman, who demands a rematch. Spider-Man flees the fight, further damaging his reputation. The Human Torch tries to draw Spider-Man out to their meeting place at the Statue of Liberty, but he does not show. Determined to prove Spider-Man is a hero, Flash dresses up as him, only to be beaten up by two car thieves. Peter finds that Betty has a new boyfriend and laments that his time as Spider-Man has separated them. However, Peter is surprised to find that Aunt May is recuperating quickly.
