Spider-Man returns to action, quickly rounding up local criminals — much to Jameson’s annoyance. As the Human Torch is returning home from an adventure, he is suddenly attacked by Sandman and the Enforcers who smother his flame and take him prisoner. When Peter spies Fancy Dan on the street, he follows him, as Spider-Man, to the rest of the Enforcers and their gang, but they escape during the clash. At the Daily Bugle, Peter is formally introduced to Betty’s new boyfriend, reporter Ned Leeds. Finally learning where the Sandman and Enforcers are hidden, Spider-Man manages to free the Torch and defeat everyone but the Sandman who, exhausted, is grabbed by police. Peter sells the photos to Jameson, but is unaware that a private detective is following him.
