Red Skull attacks Captain America with the Cosmic Cube. When Cap fights back the “Skull” disappears, only to reveal himself elsewhere in the room and that Cap had been battling a construct. Armed with the Cube, the Skull easily defeats Cap. Drunk with power, the Skull teleports Cap to a world of fire. Meanwhile at SHIELD HQ, Rick confronts Sharon over Cap’s disappearance, but when he gets no sympathy from her he tries Avengers Mansion, where Yellowjacket assures him that his partner is probably just taking a few days off. Undeterred, Rick appeals to the Teen Brigade. After teleporting Cap to different planets and shrinking him in a vain effort to drive Cap insane, Red Skull uses the Cube to teleport Sharon to the hotel. Before releasing her from a trance, the Skull uses the Cube to switch appearances with Cap. Now awake, Sharon runs into Red Skull’s arms, thinking he is Cap. When Steve tries to convince Sharon that he is really Captain America, she believes that the Skull has gone mad.
A Mediterranean island fisherman discovers the Cosmic Cube. When he uses it to improve the local villagers’ lifestyle, the Red Skull and his Exiles learn of the Cube’s location and steal it from the fisherman. The Exiles believe that the Cube belongs to all of them equally, but the Skull uses the Cube to cow the Exiles into accepting his authority.
Cap believes that he and Red Skull have switched bodies, but they have only changed their appearances, revealed in Cap #119, ’69.
