The Avengers discover an intruder in the mansion standing over the body of the unconscious Jarvis. After a short battle, the mystery person is revealed to be WWII hero the Whizzer, there to retrieve a Chrono-module that the Avengers recently unearthed from a collapsed building. The Whizzer explains that after the war he married fellow hero Miss America, and recounts how they were both exposed to high radiation doses while stopping a nuclear project gone wild, resulting in their son being born a radioactive mutant. The child was locked away in the Chrono-module to protect humanity from it, but even as the Whizzer explains this, the now adult mutant bursts free, and escapes out into the city. Splitting up into three search parties, the Avengers scour the city for newly-dubbed “Nuklo,” each group soon having separate encounters with Nuklo, who has split into 3 separate beings. The Avengers force each version of Nuklo to retreat back towards Avengers Mansion, where they merge together again. Meanwhile, the Scarlet Witch gets the Whizzer to a doctor. The Whizzer explains that after placing their son in the chrono-module, he and his wife, pregnant again, later traveled to Wundagore Mountain, where she gave birth to twins. Wanda declares the Whizzer to be her long lost father, giving the Whizzer an idea how to defeat Nuklo. At his behest, the Scarlet Witch uses her “blood connection,” casting a hex which subdues her “brother.”
The Whizzer and Miss America get married. An explosion damages a nuclear project in 1949, which the Whizzer and Miss America repair. The Whizzer’s son is later born emitting radiation, and is placed in the chrono-module. Later, the Whizzer and Miss America travel to Wundagore mountain, where Miss America gives birth to a set of twins while in the care of the High Evolutionary (1). The Avengers rescue victims from a building collapse, revealing a time-capsule amidst the rubble (2). The All-Winners Squad battles Isbisa (AllWin #19, ’46). The All-Winners Squad battles Future Man (AllWin #21, ’46). The original Human Torch is captured and buried in the desert (YM #24, ’53). The Whizzer being Wanda and Pietro’s father is later retracted; their mother is revealed to be Magda in Av #186, ’79, and X #125, ’79 reveals Magda’s husband to be Magneto, who is finally confirmed as the twins’ father in VSW #4, ’82.
