The hammers of the Serpent crash land all over the Earth, including Paris, where the Grey Gargoyle witnesses the impact. Meanwhile, before Tony rushes to respond to the attacks taking place all over the planet, he urges Pepper to hire Bethany Cabe as security for his Resilient team. She doesn't like the idea of bringing Tony's old girlfriend into the fold. She nonetheless tracks down Cabe and recruits her to become their security. Iron Man flies off to Paris to respond to the impact site there. When he lands, he senses that there is no human activity at all on the streets, and soon discovers the reason why: everyone he sees has been turned to stone. While wondering how this has happened, someone whispers from a hiding place. The man tells him that he needs to hide because being out in the open is not safe. The Grey Gargoyle crashes next to them, then turns the man into stone. Iron Man fights back against the Grey Gargoyle, but his massively amplified powers are too much for him, and he smashes him through a wall. Iron Man realizes that every time he crashes into the rocky statues of people, he's actually killing them. The Gargoyle keeps smashing him with his hammer, eventually smashing him in his helmet, causing internal bleeding. Tony passes out but eventually wakes up on top of a giant mound of crushed stone, the bodies of all the people killed in their battle.
