Peter is on the phone with Aunt May, pleased at her recovery from her coronary bypass (ASM #179, ’78). Later, he stops a bank robbery, with his camera taking pictures. At Bellevue hospital an ailing Vulture, Adrian Toomes , is walked into a therapy room by a prison guard. There, he meets Nathan Lubensky, also in for therapy. Nathan inadvertently renews Toomes’ interest in life, and once Nathan leaves, he builds a makeshift set of wings, and escapes. At the Bugle, JJJ opens the dark room door, ruining Peter’s robbery pictures. Rival photographer Lance Bannon points out that the red warning light has a short and sometimes does not come on; something he did not bother to tell Pete. Meanwhile, full of new energy, the Vulture stages a crime spree, hiding out at Restwell Nursing Home. Peter visits May and spots Toomes, who realizing he’s been recognized, quietly forces Pete to his room, and ties him up. As Toomes becomes the Vulture, Pete breaks free and becomes Spidey. As they battle, the Vulture grabs a hostage. When he realizes he has grabbed Nathan, he frees him and escapes.
