Wilbur Day frets that his criminal career has been a big bust and vows to do something about increasing his power and standing in the villain community. Hearing a radio report involving Spidey and Tigra, he rails against the web-slinger’s status since he once soundly defeated him. The next day, on the subway, Pete’s spider-sense alerts him to Wilbur, who appears to be a mousy man with a briefcase. However, a pickpocket steals Pete’s wallet and, in apprehending the thief, he loses track of Wilbur, who later breaks into a Cordco plant to rebuild and enhance his stilt-suit. Pete dines with Aunt May and her tenants. Later, after following a Stark security van, Spidey tackles Stilt-Man in the Cordco lab. During the battle, Spidey saves Stilt-Man’s life, so when Spidey is knocked out, Stilt-Man chooses not to crush him. He turns Spidey over to the security guards and departs.
