  • Peter discovers the biophysics grades are not yet in because Deb Whitman’s quitting has put Dr. Sloan behind. As Pete leaves ESU, Lance Bannon pulls up and demands they talk. Upstate, from his prison cell, the Thinker transmits his thought patterns into a simulacrum in his Manhattan Lab. Reviewing past events, he discovers Spider-Man successfully battled Alpha, an android cobbled together from his equipment. Curious about rumors that Spidey has a “danger sense,” he activates Battle-Droid #12 to test the web-slinger. Meanwhile, Lance takes Peter to a bar where he pours his heart out about his feelings for Amy. Pete isn’t interested in Amy and tries to prove it by calling her, only Amy overwhelms him with restaurant plans for later that night. Pete tells Lance to come to his apartment and join him. As Spidey heads home, the droid attacks and they fi ght their way across Manhattan until the web-slinger traps it in an electric power plant, destroying it. The Thinker, confirming that Spidey does indeed have a spider-sense, decides he must uncover its secret but has to think further about it. Amy unexpectedly arrives at Pete’s apartment with a picnic basket. She throws herself at him, covering his face with kisses, just as Mary Jane Watson uses her spare key to let herself in.

    The Thinker’s battles with the Fantastic Four (FF #15, ’63), X-Men (FF #28, ’64) & Avengers (Av #39, ’67). Alpha battles Spidey (MTU #129, ’83).
