Spider-Man visits District Attorney Tower and asks for his help in tracking Hobgoblin. In the Hobgoblin’s hideout, a man mixes a batch of strength-enhancing Goblin formula that blows up in his face. Another man drags him outside where a rescue crew, responding to the ensuing fire, picks him up. Peter investigates Lefty Donovan in the Bugle morgue. Betty Leeds takes him to lunch, not telling him Ned and Mary Jane are waiting for them as she and Ned play matchmaker. Several weeks pass. The burned man wakes up, escapes the hospital, returns to the hideout and dons the goblin suit. Spidey checks in with Detective Lou Snider and learns that the Hobgoblin, now exhibiting tremendous strength, is tearing up Times Square. They fight and Spidey unmasks Hobgoblin, revealing Lefty Donovan. Just as Donovan mentions a “boss,” the glider’s remote guidance system kicks in, fl ying him into a building and killing him. At his hideout, the real Hobgoblin reflects that he hypnotized Donovan so that the risky formula would be tested on someone else. Now with a complete analysis of the process, Hobby can recreate it without the explosive side effects.
