Spider-Man spies the Human Torch on a rampage and tries to stop him, only to discover that the Torch is merely performing in a new film called The Torch Goes Wild. The altercation makes the newspapers and Paragon Productions sends out a casting call for Spider-Man to appear in the upcoming film. Spider-Man journeys to Los Angeles to accept. He and the Human Torch agree to set aside their rivalry while making the film together. When the duo begin filming a scene depicting an alien invasion, the Torch suddenly turns on Spider-Man then flees the scene. Unknown to Spider-Man and the Torch, the studio is run by the Wizard who recruited Spider-Man’s foe Mysterio in a plot to destroy their mutual enemies. The Wizard had impersonated the Torch during filming in order to trick he and Spider-Man into a fight. Sure enough, the real Torch and Spider-Man battle, but they are too evenly matched. Growing impatient, the Wizard tries to destroy them with an energy ray but the duo avoid it and realize they were tricked. The Wizard and Mysterio unleash a variety of traps upon the duo, but the Torch and Spider-Man overcome everything. When they finally reach the Wizard and Mysterio they discover only holographic illusions created by Mysterio. Quickly, they pursue the real criminals. Their fight leads them into a clash with a giant mechanical gorilla and a cavern filled with magnetically drawn metal rocks, but Spider-Man reverses the magnetic flow so that the rocks destroy the Wizard and Mysterio’s control room. The two criminals are turned over to the police and Spider-Man wins reward money for their capture, but has to spend it on plane fare home to New York.
