Ex-con Max Young, picks up Professor Mendel Stromm after his release from prison, joining him as his assistant. As Frederick Foswell, Stromm’s former cell-mate, looks on, a gunman attempts to shoot him but is stopped by Spider-Man. With Betty gone, J. Jonah Jameson is going through a series of secretaries at the Bugle. Foswell arrives to tell Jameson that Stromm has vowed revenge on the man who set him up. As Peter Parker strikes out with Gwen Stacy, Stromm creates an “amoeboid” robot to steal inventions from an Osborn facility. Spider-Man interferes but the facility catches fire and Spider-Man is blamed. Norman Osborn surveys the damage with his son Harry, and knows that, as Stromm’s double-crossing ex-business partner, he is the Professor’s target. Spider-Man follows Patch to Stromm’s lab hideout where both are trapped as Stromm sends a “mechanoid” robot to kill Osborn. Spider-Man escapes the lab, and saves Osborn, who strikes him from behind and flees. Back at the lab, Spider-Man defeats the robot and goes after Stromm. Surrendering, Stromm tries to reveal Osborn’s role but a gun protruding from an inaccessibly high window fires at him. Spider-Man saves him but Stromm apparently dies from a heart attack. No one is at the window but, alone at home, Norman Osborn brandishes the gun.
