  • Joe Smith has dreams of being champ but he fails as a boxer and wrestler. His agent, Tommy Tomkins, tells him he lacks a killer instinct and gets him an acting job as a movie monster. However, Joe is caught in an explosive mix of chemicals and electricity on the set, giving him great strength and increased aggression. At the Bugle, another secretary quits as Peter and Ned Leeds realize neither knows where Betty Brant is. Back on set, Joe goes on a rampage into the city and battles Spider-Man. As Joe’s rage passes, Tommy helps him escape. Meanwhile, Norman Osborn, in disguise, hires hitmen from Hoods Incorporated to kill Spider-Man, offering twenty-thousand dollars. The hitmen attack Spider-Man even as Joe’s berserker rage begins again. Entering his former gym, Joe tackles the boxers but Spider-Man intervenes. Knowing about the twenty grand offer, the boxers turn on Spider-Man, but are defeated. After enduring repeated spider-powered blows, Joe’s rage and power fade. With charges against Joe dropped, Tommy tells him International Broadcasting Network has signed him to a five year contract to star in a super-hero TV series. Spidey takes his frustrations out on more hoods trying to collect Osborn’s money, and punches a mannequin that reminds him of Ned Leeds. Peter arrives home too late to meet Mary Jane Watson.
