The Masters of Evil return to the Crimson Cowl’s base with the captured Avengers, where the Cowl reveals that he is actually a robot named Ultron-5, and that Jarvis was merely under hypnotic suggestion when he was in the Cowl outfit. Ultron-5 reveals his plan to place the Avengers in a hydrogen bomb above the Empire State building and blackmail the people of New York City into paying for their safety. Awakening from the hypnotic spell, Jarvis realizes what he has done and pleads with Ultron-5 to spare the Avengers’ lives, but the villain orders the Melter to dispose of the butler. Though injured by falling debris caused by the Melter’s gun, Jarvis escapes, and as he stumbles towards the mansion, the Black Knight discovers him. Following Jarvis’ information to the Avengers’ location, the Knight frees them and helps defeat the Masters of Evil, though Whirlwind escapes, and Ultron-5 is not around. Learning that Jarvis only sold them out to get money to pay for his sick mother’s medical treatments, the Avengers forgive Jarvis. Meanwhile, in a hidden lair, Ultron vows to slay the Avengers.
