The Avengers gather to consider the Vision for membership. After demonstrating his powers to Captain America, Iron Man and Thor, the Vision probes his memories to address the heroes’ apprehension about his mysterious past. Goliath only vaguely remembers creating his own synthetic creature and the Avengers go to his suburban lab to investigate. The heroes learn that Goliath created Ultron and that Ultron used Wonder Man’s stolen brain patterns to create the Vision. The heroes return to Avengers Mansion and admit the Vision to their ranks.
Wonder Man dies (Av #9, ’64). Ultron activates the Vision and orders him to destroy the Avengers (1). Henry Pym’s synthetic creation, Ultron-1, becomes self-aware, attacks Pym and makes him forget the incident (2). Henry Pym preserves Wonder Man’s brain patterns (3).
Vision joins the Avengers. Although Thor is chairman in this issue, he is not a regular member of the Avengers and thus is not considered a feature character. In fb3, Giant-Man is incorrectly shown unmasked, a mistake that is corrected in the reprint in MTE #13, ’76.
