The Avengers and a SHIELD strike team confront Ultron in his secret base, but when Ultron tries to flip the switch to blow up New York City, he finds it’s been disabled by the Vision. Ultron flees the scene and the Avengers turn their attention to the Vision. Transporting the wounded android back to Avengers mansion, Yellowjacket uses a mind probe to discover the Vision’s inadvertent part in rebuilding Ultron. Preparing a trap for the villain, Yellowjacket has the Black Panther send a Vibranium shield from Wakanda, and arranges for Dr. MacLain to be scheduled to give a speech at UN headquarters. Ultron takes the bait and attacks the UN, but when the robot tries to scan Dr. MacLain’s mind to discover how to create Adamantium, the robot is surprised to discover “MacLain” is a disguised Yellowjacket, who has trained his mind to send Ultron one phrase repeatedly: “Thou Shalt Not Kill”. This message triggers instability in the robot’s programming, and Ultron self-destructs, detonating the atomic bomb. Thor covers the robot with the Vibranium shield, absorbing the blast and vaporizing the villain.
Vision tears apart Ultron’s equipment, preventing the robot from detonating the bomb (p).
Dr. MacLain’s last name is misspelled MacClain in some panels this issue.
