Stopping off at SHIELD’s orbiting space station above the Earth, the Avengers borrow a spaceship to take the fight to the Kree and Skrulls. They soon encounter the entire Skrull armada, awaiting the order to invade Earth, and the Skrull flagship attacks. The Avengers board and subdue the flagship crew, but the Skrull Emperor appears on a monitor screen, taunting the Avengers that Captain Marvel is aiding in the construction of an Omni-wave. The Kree hero surprises the Skrulls by using the device to rescue Quicksilver and the Scarlet Witch. In retaliation, the Skrull Emperor orders the execution of “Plan Delta”. A doomsday bomb is launched at Earth, which Goliath races to intercept. Meanwhile, Rick Jones is presented to Ronan on the Kree homeworld, and his defiance soon lands him in a prison chamber alongside the Supreme Intelligence. The Kree supercomputer reveals he has been behind manipulating events to get Rick there, and with the help of Captain Marvel’s Omni-wave, casts Rick into the Negative Zone, where Annihilus awaits!
The Skrulls hold Captain Marvel, Quicksilver, and the Scarlet Witch captive (Av #94, ’72). The Avengers join the battle for Attilan, and Rick Jones is abducted by a Kree soldier (Av #95, ’72), H. Warren Craddock speaks against the Avengers (Av #95, ’72). Rick Jones flees the Congressional hearing room (Av #92, ’71). Captain Marvel is attacked by the Super-Skrull (Av #93, ’71).
Goliath notes that he has thrown away his growth serum “a couple of days ago,” a choice he apparently made after the conclusion of the previous issue.
