  • The Avengers are searching for their teammate Goliath (Clint Barton), lost in space during the interstellar Kree-Skrull War. While Thor and Iron Man depart to use Asgard’s and Tony Stark’s resources in the search, a worried Quicksilver realizes that Barton is one of the very few friends he has made during his years among humans. Captain America sees TV reports of charismatic pro-war agitator Mr. Tallon and his Warhawks stirring up an angry mob of protesters at the Midtown Hotel, targeting communist foreign dignitary Wo Tong. Cap leads several Avengers in defending the hotel and trying to calm the protesters, but the hypnotic music played by Tallon’s aides soon has Cap and his partners joining the angry mob. Inexplicably unable to enter Asgard, Thor returns and consults with Vision, who temporarily frees Iron Man from the Warhawks’ hypnotic influence. While Thor and Vision are immune to the Warhawks’ music, Iron Man and the other Avengers fall under its spell, attacking Vision and Thor, who recognizes “Tallon” as the Olympian war god Ares. Thor and Vision are outnumbered and overwhelmed, but the tide is turned when Clint Barton unexpectedly comes to their aid as Hawkeye. A defeated Ares flees, and Hawkeye introduces his traveling companion: an amnesiac Hercules, whose only memory is a poem prophesying the doom of Earth and Asgard.

Thor tries to enter Asgard but is repelled by an invisible barrier (d).
