The Avengers storm the Sentinel base’s main entrance while Quicksilver and Larry Trask sneak into a secondary access tunnel. The robots’ leader, Sentinel 2, tells the captive Scarlet Witch how he plans to use her to power a device that will trigger a solar flare to sterilize humankind. Injured in battle with a Sentinel, Quicksilver exhorts Trask to stop the robots. Elsewhere in the base, the Sentinels gain the upper hand against Captain America, Hawkeye, Iron Man and Thor, but the Vision frees the Scarlet Witch and together they launch a counterattack. Trask arrives and exposes Sentinel 2 as a mutant. Following their mutant-killing programming, the other Sentinels destroy their leader and collapse onto Trask, whose vision of doomsday proves to have been a prediction of his own death. The Avengers depart, unaware that Quicksilver lies injured elsewhere in the base.
