In his civilian identity, Taurus visits Joshua Link, aka Gemini, in prison, and reveals that Zodiac plans to kill every New Yorker born under Gemini’s sign. Taurus assures Link that Zodiac will free and protect him, but Gemini reveals that he is psychically linked to his twin brother Damian, and that if Damian dies, Joshua dies too. Later, police sergeant Damian Link introduces himself to the Avengers as a police department liaison. Swordsman discovers Damian reading a manual on the Mansion’s secret weapons system, and exposes Damian’s Gemini costume, which Joshua had forced Damian to wear under his police uniform. Damian fights the Avengers, but is quickly defeated by Thor. Watching from a nearby rooftop, Taurus summons the rest of Zodiac. Back at the Mansion, Swordsman collapses, and Mantis discovers the injuries he suffered in Bolivia are infected. As Damian revives, Zodiac, armed with Taurus’ Star-Blazer, attacks the Mansion. They defeat the Avengers and leave with their recovered comrade. Jarvis arrives and revives the Avengers, and they play a recorded message left by Taurus, where he reveals the Zodiac’s plan. Reasoning that Zodiac will station their Star-Ship weapon at high altitude, the Avengers arrive atop the World Trade Center just in time to damage the giant weapon. Taurus uses the Star-Ship’sremaining power to blast Mantis to the edge of the roof, and threatens to blow her over the ledge, unless the Avengers allow them to escape.
Twin brothers Joshua and Damian Link fall into an experimental electron chamber. Later, Joshua, as the villainous Gemini, discovers he can take over Damian’s mind and body (AT #8/2, ’71).
Zodiac’s giant Star-Blazer is located atop the “eastern tower” of the World Trade Center, but the Towers were actually named North & South; this is likely the South Tower. Captain America is depicted on the cover, but is not in the issue.
