Kang’s Macrobots swiftly subdue the Avengers, and he informs them that the Dawn Star overhead is why he has always attacked their era, as it heralds the completeness of the Celestial Madonna; Kang plans to be her mate, and father a child through whom he can rule the heavens. Since the star appeared above the mansion, one of the women there – Agatha Harkness, Mantis or the Scarlet Witch – must be the Madonna, so he teleports them and most of the Avengers away, leaving behind the Swordsman, whom he derides as a useless weakling. Agatha supernaturally contacts Swordsman to tell him Kang is using Rama-Tut’s pyramid as his base, and the Swordsman flies to Egypt, tormented by wondering it Mantis’ love for him was a lie, given she just dumped him to pursue the Vision. He crash lands near Rama-Tut’s pyramid after Egyptian planes shoot him down for violating their airspace. Forcing an entrance into the pyramid, Swordsman is attacked by the vampiric Amenhotep, left there by Rama-Tut as a guard millennia past, but Egyptian soldiers, arriving to arrest the Swordsman, draw the vampire away. The Swordsman proceeds deeper into the tomb, unaware the sunlight he has admitted has triggered a mummy case to open. On a monitor Kang watches Amenhotep slay the soldiers, then die under the Egyptian sun, and mistakenly concludes the Swordsman also slain. As Kang places the three captive male Avengers inside the Macrobots to act as living power sources, the covertly observing Swordsman prepares to strike him down, but is stopped by a new arrival – Rama-Tut!
Kang travels to ancient Egypt in his Time Sphinx and becomes Rama-Tut (FF #19, ’63). Attempting to return to his own time, Rama-Tut overshoots and arrives on the war torn 41st century Earth; he becomes Kang and conquers it (Av #8, ’64). Swordsman and Mantis spend time together in Vietnam.
This story continues in GSAv #2, ’74. The Rama-Tut who appears at the end of the story is from a timeline where an elderly Kang abandoned conquest and returned to rule Egypt again; this older Rama-Tut later diverges through time travel into Immortus (Thor #282, ’79 fb) and another, much older Kang (AvFo #9, ’99 fb). A zombie doppelganger impersonates Amenhotep as part of the Grim Reaper’s Legion of the Unliving in Av #353, ’92.
