Count Nefaria now possesses the power of the Lethal Legion magnified a hundredfold, thanks to a machine his scientists built that created an energy template from the trio’s cell structures. Nefaria’s invulnerability, incredible speed, and superstrength allow him to overpower the Avengers and topple a large building onto them. The aged Whizzer confronts the villain and tells him his mortality ultimately will render his powers useless. With newfound purpose, Nefaria spares Whizzer’s life and flies away. Iron Man arrives at the battle scene and discovers that the Avengers have survived under the rubble. The team regroups and challenges Iron Man’s leadership. Nefaria returns, seeking to learn the secret of Thor’s immortality. He trashes the Avengers again before Thor inexplicably arrives and attacks the villain.
