SHIELD director Nick Fury alerts the Avengers to the sudden appearance of a gigantic space station in Earth orbit, its flight path seemingly threatening SHIELD’s space station. The Avengers, including guest Wonder Man and inactive member Thor (who has found himself mysteriously transported through time and space to assist in Avengers crises of late), assemble to investigate. Team leader Iron Man is last to arrive, since he had to leave SHIELD’s space station as Tony Stark before he could return as Iron Man; unaware of Iron Man’s secret identity, Captain America is angered by Iron Man’s seeming negligence. The Avengers board and explore the giant alien space station, which turns out to be Drydock, home of the time-traveling 31st century heroes the Guardians of the Galaxy, past allies of Cap and Thor. Not knowing the Guardians, Beast gets into a scuffle with them before Thor breaks it up. The Guardians explain they have come to the Avengers’ time period in search of their foe Korvac, who has fled to this era, possibly to target Guardian Vance Astro’s present-day younger self Vance Astrovik. Meanwhile, on Park Avenue, new designer Janet Pym (Wasp) is staging her first fashion show when the Porcupine and his accomplices try to rob it. While Wasp, her husband Yellowjacket and their ally Nighthawk easily defeat the criminals, a strangely intense man approaches fashion model Carina Walters and teleports away with her.
