Hawkeye returns to an empty Avengers Mansion, leaving the front door open behind him as he investigates. Moments later, federal agent Gyrich arrives, furious to find the door ajar. When the Avengers return, they are overjoyed to see the long-absent Hawkeye, but alarmed when he tells them he subdued a red-haired intruder. Realizing Hawkeye has unwittingly captured their new government overseer, the Avengers quickly free Gyrich, who scorns the team’s security and revokes their Avengers Priority status, severing their ties with the government and canceling all their special operational privileges. Moments later, the Avengers learn Quicksilver has disappeared, and that Tyrak is attacking New York Harbor. Iron Man sends most of the team with ally Ms. Marvel to battle Tyrak, but assigns Wasp and Yellowjacket to contact past Avengers, places Beast and Thor on standby, and heads to the lab to investigate the recent Avengers disappearances. During the ensuing battle with Tyrak, Wonder Man is struck by Ms. Marvel’s combat bravery, and his overeager attempts to match it enable Tyrak to catch them both off guard when Wonder Man tries to protect Ms. Marvel, though Scarlet Witch rescues them and Vision dehydrates the villain into submission with heat beams. Unable to properly contain or transport Tyrak without their operational privileges, the heroes throw him back into the water before he can die of dehydration, and the villain departs. Ms. Marvel also leaves, bidding Wonder Man a half-scolding, half-flirting farewell. Seconds later, the Vision vanishes before his teammates’ eyes. Meanwhile, the other Avengers have contacted several past members, but Beast and Thor have departed to deal with other crises. As Iron Man insists the rest of them will continue to focus on the vanishing Avengers, a shadowy figure gloats over his capture of Quicksilver, Captain America, Moondragon, Vision, Two-Gun Kid and Jocasta.
