  • Iron Man siphons the electrical energy from the turbine-charged Absorbing Man, and flies skyward to disperse the charge before he overloads. Alerted about the battle with Creel, Captain America and Falcon head to the harbor to join their teammates. Absorbing Man takes on the properties of Cap’s indestructible shield and fights off the heroes. He flees with Sandy, the woman he abducted, and discovers that the Avengers caused him to miss his ship’s departure. Confronted by the Avengers, Creel pushes Sandy aside to protect her, inadvertently assumes Vision’s intangibility during the ensuing struggle, and falls through the dock into the river. He swims for freedom, trying to catch up with the ship, but realizing the Avengers are gaining on him, a weary Creel turns to water and disperses into the harbor. Surprised at how the Absorbing Man ultimately moved her out of danger instead of using her as a hostage, Sandy wonders aloud if it might have been okay to just let Creel escape.

This issue’s letter page includes a set of newly Byrne-drawn headshots of the Avengers: Ms. Marvel, Iron Man, Beast, Vision, Captain America (chairman), Wasp, Falcon, and Scarlet Witch. As of next issue, these headshots will replace the long-running Vision image in the symbolic image box placed in the top left corner of each issue’s cover.
