Betrayed by his employer, an arsonist planting a bomb at Liquigas is caught in the blast when the bomb proves to be preset to detonate earlier than he was informed. Human Torch was called in, but is unable to stop the resulting fire as it siphons his flames. Catching a news report, Beast assembles the team and they head out to New Jersey to investigate. The Avengers, except Wasp, don specialized asbestos suits and enter the blaze. They discover the arsonist, transformed into Pyron the Thermal Man when the bomb mixes with chemicals at the location, and he reveals he was employed by the company itself to torch their facility. Carrying a damaged Jocasta out of the fire, Wonder Man is castigated by Liquidgas’ president, but recalling Pyron’s words, Wonder Man hands him over to the authorities. Meanwhile, Wasp gets close enough to hit Pyron with a foam capsule, dousing his fire.
