  • The Avengers each deal with Yellowjacket’s court-martial in their own way: Thor and Iron Man plot how to reach out to Hank, while Captain America remorsefully punishes himself in the Avengers gym. Hank visits Jan, apologizing for his behavior, but she announces her intent to divorce. Hank says he doesn’t want or need any of her money, but is secretly living in poverty. Later that night, in the New Mexico desert a derelict Johnny Blaze succumbs to feelings of anger as he watches an expensive car drive past, transforming into the Ghost Rider. He pursues the vehicle, which is being driven by his old Champions teammate, the Angel. Recognizing him, Ghost Rider challenges Angel to a race, bike against wings, threatening Candy to force the issue. When an angry Angel attacks, a blast of hellfi re lands him in the local hospital from which his girlfriend Candy calls the Avengers for assistance. Captain America leads the team out west, searching for the Ghost Rider while being treated as local celebrities by the townsfolk. Blaze attempts to slip out of town undetected, but when he spots a child about to fall from a water tower he risks letting the Ghost Rider out again. However, the Rider ignores the child, leaving Iron Man to rescue the boy, and instead battles the Avengers. Though overwhelmed by the Rider’s hellfi re powers at fi rst, the heroes regroup, but the now recovered Angel soon interrupts the battle. The former teammate offers his friendship to Blaze, giving Blaze the strength to subdue the Rider, though he then rejects Angel’s help. The Avengers leave, with Captain America noting the resemblances between Ghost Rider and Yellowjacket.

Yellowjacket leaves the Avengers (Av #213, ’81).
