Dr. Druid sneaks into Avengers Mansion and uses his magic and that of the spirit of his ancestor, Amergin, to transport the Avengers through a mystical time corridor to Amergin’s tower in 12th-century Avalon. The magic puts Druid into a trance and doesn’t work on the hypnotized Iron Man, whose armor grounds out Druid’s power. In Avalon, the other Avengers are reunited with Black Knight, who learns that his stone body was shattered in the present day. Avalon’s High Druid, Amergin, explains that he summoned the heroes as his last line of defense against his enemies, the monstrous Fomor. The Fomor attack, and the Avengers mount a effective defense until their foes summon the giant Balor from his prison. A blast from Balor’s eye causes Thor and She-Hulk to disappear. In the melee, the Fomor trickster Bres covertly uses the time corridor to travel to Avengers Mansion, where he prepares to kill Dr. Druid to trap the Avengers in the past.

The Fomor are loosely based on the Fomorians, semi-divine inhabitants of ancient Ireland, from Celtic mythology. Avalon is one of the lands of the Otherworld dimension. In this issue and the next, Wasp wears what she calls her “best designer outfit,” the costume she first wore in Av #183-188, ’79. The 2nd rfb is based on the cover to Av #100, ’72, and does not actually depict a scene from that issue.
