With Egghead dead, the Avengers arrest his Masters of Evil, including Moonstone, who immediately offers to supply evidence of how Egghead framed Hank Pym, who is swiftly exonerated; Hawkeye is also found innocent of wrongdoing in Egghead’s accidental death. Sent to prison, Beetle encounters fellow inmate Plantman, actually a Plantman simuloid duplicate. Restless after months of comforting his late friend Mar-Vell’s grieving lover Elysius, Eros of Titan considers seeking adventure on Earth. After helping Egghead’s niece Trish Starr and her friend Fred Sloan scatter Egghead’s ashes at sea, Hank Pym goes to Avengers Mansion, where a cerebral scanner test proves that his recent mental breakdown was not caused by an outside force. Accepting this gracefully, Pym insists on serving as a witness at the team’s formal internal inquiry regarding Egghead’s death, and he speaks passionately in Hawkeye’s defense. While the team rules in Hawkeye’s favor, Pym shares a tender goodbye with Jarvis, then tells the Avengers he plans to return to research. Regretting how things turned out, the Avengers express their respect for Pym and try to convince him to stay on in some capacity, but Hank firmly insists he is done with super-heroics and gives them his Yellowjacket gear. After bidding Wasp a sad but mutually amicable farewell, Hank Pym departs.
