Spider-Man breaks into Avengers Mansion to announce he’s seeking to join the Avengers, but they turn him down because they have a full roster. The discussion is interrupted by an Avengers priority alarm, and they throw him out. As the Avengers leave the mansion, Spider-Man leaps onto the bottom of their Quinjet, accompanying them to Project Pegasus, the source of the alarm. Once there, Spider-Man reveals himself and joins the Avengers as they investigate the damaged Thermal Research Dome area of the Project. They fi nd the wounded head of security, Guardsman, who explains he hit the alarm when Lava Men attacked. The Avengers chase down the intruders, who are rampaging through the complex towards the Nuclear Dome, but the Lava Men stop in their tracks upon spotting Captain Marvel, whom they mistake for their mythology’s “Lady of Light.” The heroes discover the Lava Men believed an exploratory drill from the Thermal Dome above was a deliberate attack on their village, and were retaliating. Meanwhile, the disruptions caused by the attack have inadvertently freed the Darkforce powered Blackout, who soon frees his fellow super-villain inmates, all of whom prepare to strike against the Avengers...
