On Earth the Avengers search for their missing teammates, using Black Knight’s drill’s energy-sensor core to find traces of a chronal displacement wave, and they deduce Kang’s involvement. Meanwhile in Limbo, Wasp tries to question Space Phantom on how to escape but Kang intervenes, seemingly destroying the Phantom and setting a horde of Dire Wraiths on them. Terrifi ed of Kang, the Wraiths fight to the death, but Hercules forces the last survivor to reveal Kang’s location, and the Avengers enter his palace, fi nding the “adventurous” Kang’s corpse. Summoned by Kang Prime, the “fi nal counterpart” Kang arrives, assumes the Avengers slew the dead Kang, and attacks, first with the Growing Man and then personally. Back on Earth the other Avengers modify Leader’s time platform (Hulk #284-286) to track the wave, and are teleported to Limbo, though the platform is destroyed. When an unconscious Growing Man lands near them (sent flying by Hercules’ punch), they track his trajectory back to the citadel and join the fi ght; just as all concerned begin to realize they have been played, Kang Prime stuns them. They awaken imprisoned, and Kang Prime promises to slay them all.
