As Kang Prime recounts his origin, Hercules strains against the force fi eld holding him until the system overloads, freeing the Avengers and the “fi nal counterpart” Kang. During the fi ght, “counterpart” Kang attempts to kill Prime, but is slain by his own sabotaged gun. Prime crows in triumph at being the last surviving Kang, but Immortus reveals himself to be alive and that Ravonna is working with him, since she feels Immortus represents all the good Kang had lost. Immortus explains that he manipulated Kang Prime to clean up the timelines while keeping Prime unaware that Immortus himself is a divergent Kang, and reveals a psyche-globe containing all the memories of the slain Kangs. Believing it the source of Immortus’ power, Kang takes the globe and is force-fed all the memories at once. Driven mad, Kang runs out into Limbo, and the Avengers condemn Immortus’ manipulations as he sends them home.
In a scientifi cally advanced divergent reality, technology leads to many wars, until Kang’s ancestor, a time-traveler, brings peace and enlightenment (FF #273, ’84). Kang visits his ancestor’s citadel and finds a time machine, which he uses to go back to ancient Egypt and become Pharaoh Rama-Tut. Eventually he fi ghts the time-traveling Fantastic Four and is forced to fl ee into time (FF #19, ’63). Rama-Tut comes across Doom floating in space and returns him to Earth (FF Ann #2, ’64). Winding up 1000 years in his future during a time of war, Rama-Tut creates the Kang armor and leads the barbarians to create a new empire, before returning to the 20th Century where he battles the Avengers (Av #8, ’64). He later fights alongside them to save Ravonna, but she is shot by Baltag and placed in stasis by Kang (Av #23-25, ’65-66). A fight with Thor leaves Kang stranded in Limbo (Thor #140, ’67). Kang finds Immortus’ palace and remains, and uses Immortus’ technology to pluck Ravonna from time, resulting in a divergent timeline where Kang died. Deciding his offshoots are fools, Kang creates the Council of Kangs with the two Kangs that would be hardest to eliminate and begins luring the others to the palace where they may be killed outside of time.
AvFo #9, ’99 establishes that Kang Prime survives his madness by deliberately triggering another divergence, becoming two Kangs, one of whom recovers, while the other, the “Kang of Earth 123488.23497,” encounters the Cross-Time Kangs in Av #292, ’88.
