As news of the Sub-Mariner joining the Avengers spreads, demonstrators both for and against Namor gather outside Avengers Mansion. Hercules grows increasingly resentful of team leader Wasp’s authority after she orders him not to assault the anti-Namor protesters. Meanwhile, Moonstone is posing as the widow of someone Namor supposedly murdered, telling a tragic story that whips the anti-Namor protesters into a violent frenzy. FBI observers spot Moonstone and Agent Freeman alerts the Avengers, who have already started to calm the crowd. Trying to cover her escape, Moonstone blows up a hydrant, then downs Freeman’s helicopter, prompting Namor and Captain Marvel to fly to its aid. Wasp chases Moonstone into a utility tunnel and captures her with the aid of an overprotective Black Knight, whose sword unexpectedly absorbs Moonstone’s energy blast and hurls it back at her. Hercules saves civilians by clearing the damaged street above the battle, while Namor and Marvel get the injured FBI men to medical attention. The Avengers publicly unmask Moonstone as the grieving widow before turning her over to the police, who are actually disguised fellow super-criminals Absorbing Man and Titania. When a group of insurance investors sue Namor for damages from his past rampages, Namor vows to fight the charges in court, but he leaves the next day after learning from his cousin Byrrah that Attuma has conquered Atlantis and imprisoned Namor’s lover Marrina.
