Fleeing Hades on the newly broken Pathway of Infi nity, the Avengers battle the pursuing Pluto’s legions until Pluto himself accidentally aids the heroes’ escape by blasting loose a chunk of rock that plugs the hole in the bridge just long enough for the Avengers to cross. The Avengers escape to Olympus, where they overpower two centaur sentries. The mystery man who helped Namor earlier shows the heroes a vision of Zeus vowing to destroy all the Avengers despite Apollo’s vocal belief the Avengers are innocent. Realizing they cannot reason with Zeus and not wanting to risk a full-scale Olympian assault on Earth by fl eeing, the Avengers decide to win over allies among the Olympians. Namor and Captain Marvel fi ght their way past Cupid to approach Namor’s old friend Venus, who soon agrees to support the Avengers. The other Avengers convince Hephaestus and Athena of their honorable intentions after a brief battle. While Artemis presents a newly captured Wasp to Zeus, Ares warns Zeus that other Olympians are aiding the Avengers. The Avengers and their allies take their case to a sympathetic Apollo, whom Dr. Druid aids in the ongoing efforts to heal the fallen Hercules, but a furious Zeus blasts the Hall of Apollo to rubble, felling several Avengers and their Olympian allies and crippling Captain America. As the few Avengers still standing counterattack, the Avengers’ mysterious ally fears this war may have no victors.
