Fixer discards Marrina and escapes to his lair, where his former associate, Mentallo, awaits. Fixer captures the surprised Mentallo, who sends out a telepathic distress call that Dr. Druid receives. The Avengers raid the lair and free Mentallo, but Fixer gets away. The heroes transport Awesome Android to Hydrobase, where they discover the real Fixer in a contain-ment tube that formerly housed the Super-Adaptoid in Avengers Mansion. The heroes conclude that the Adaptoid switched places with Fixer and is their true foe. Still in Fixer’s form, Super-Adaptoid locates Machine Man and proposes an alliance.
